Hi all,

Would anybody on this forum have the postal rates of France from 1945 to 1955?

I am looking out for at least the following:

1. Foreign letter rates
2. Registration charges
3. Airmail surcharges to the various zones.

Thanks!

Thanks, perf12.

The information on the various French postal rates and services on the website is fantastic, and when you have Google translate, language is no longer a big barrier.

Would you happen to know the following? I am afraid I couldn't find it on the website.

1. When items are mailed from France to its overseas territories such as Indochina and Martinique, are domestic rates or foreign rates used?

2. For items sent from the overseas territories to France, are the rates the same as the other way round (i.e. from France to the overseas territories)? Or do the overseas territories have their own separate rates?

3. When mail is sent abroad, airmail surcharges need to be paid. I don't seem to be able to find the surcharges on the website. Can information on the surcharges be found elsewhere on other websites?

Many thanks

It's a complicated subject. In the years (1945-55) mail sent too the colonies was the inland rate(Metropole).

From the colonies too The Metropole(FRANCE) it depended on the colony and time period and local currency. Below an example for indochina in the time period your looking for:

In this link for the dates you mentioned;you have inside of France(Regime Interieure)including Colonies & (Regime International).
