Hello,

I found these stamps in the collection of my father died in 2011.
Lookinfg for some information, I discovered your forum and decided to register. It seems very helpful and I saw that these stamps are already a suject in it ( originals, reproductions or wrong...)

I am not an expert and I need your help.
Looking at my picture, do you think that my stamps are originals ?
And what is the estimated value for them ?

PS :I don't know what is WM Paris !

Many thanks for your help

MANU33

I'd be willing to bet Manu33 is talking about these.

Six stamps picturing King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia were put on sale Oct. 1, 1907, at the Madrid Industrial Exhibition. They were not valid for postage.

The original labels were engraved and perf 11-1/2. Examples printed by other methods or with other perfs are reprints.

Sorry, I don't have a current value, but I don't think it's a lot.

I do have all six, but that was the only scan I had handy.
Knew there were two distinct browns for the 4 denomination, but didn't realize there were SO many other colour variations.
And sadly, none of mine are perf 11.5, so they all appear to be reprints.

Thanks, Rodney, for these very interesting information.

Because I am not an expert, someone could explain to me what "perforations" mean, please ?

"perforations" are the litle holes in a row that you find between some stamps and that are very useful to separate them one from the other...

As for the "Exposición de Industrias" labels, 99% of the one that you find on the market, are reprints, worth nothing.

Hi Manu,
as explained in previous post,
The holes make stamps easy to separate from each other.

Like anything in Philately, there is so much more to the story, the holes can be a study unto themselves, they exist as round little holes as you see, or include a hole the shape of the Canadian maple leaf, holes as Morse Code,
and so on. It is the magic of stamp collection.

I like my exhibition labels, the value lies in the enjoyment of owning and studying them.

Example:
On the large image stamp, see below the Crown, two little balls on rods?
This is the iconograhy for "Industry"
What they are, is a speed limiter on early engines, as the speed increases, centrifugal force, throws the balls outward as they spin, as they go outwards they lift a spigot, and close of the power reducing the speed of the axle, until the balls drop, the valve opens and the engine again increases speed..

We had them on our destroyers in the Navy during the 1970's on supplementary engines driven by steam.

Funny. I was going over my Spain stock and just found these before seeing this on the forum. Mine appear to be perf. 11 1/2, engraved, MH.
