With the World Series finishing with a BOSTON RED SOX win in 5 I'd would be interested in knowing if either of the local Post Offices provided for game day cancellations. (I did not see anything mentioned in the Linn's Cachets & Covers Section) Also I believe that the USPS Marketing Division has probably planned on issuance of a souvenir cover on the event and am anxiously awaiting for that to show up. Anyone with connections hear about such an items?

I have also looked in the Postmark Pursuit section as well going back a few issues.

Obviously, so would I. But I'm guessing these are last minute things approved by the local postmasters and later okayed by Washington. And it seems to be hit or miss over the years if there was a special cancel. But there have been playoff series cancels sometimes. USPS has to be at an event to issue such a cancel, too.

Better to keep an eye on the USPS Postal Bulletin to see if they list any that can be sent for after the fact.

Go to "Organization Information" then "Stamp Services", then "Pictorial Postmarks". The October 25 issue has nothing for the Series.

Also be aware if you choose this route, that it could be months before you get them back. I also suggest you provide a return envelope to avoid overcancellation.

Thanks hy-brasil. Yeah, It amazes me that at some point during a sporting season that has multiple playoff games like baseball that some prototype cancellation couldn't be developed for administrative review prior to the event.

I remember obtaining the US Open special cancellations from the Brookline Branch when the Open was held at the Country Club. (There were 4-rounds & 1-play-off round cancellations.)

Yes, very different from the NFL who has had a Super Bowl cancel each year for many years now.

Some blasts from the past:

Very different from the NFL, which has had a Super Bowl cancel for each year for many years now.

Some blasts from the past:

1929 World Series with cancel from Genesee Depot, WI. Apparently they were done for each game day, same design. Not a MLB creation, but at least someone was paying attention.

From the Earthquake Series (1989). The specific team logos were used for each home game. Plus a special logo for that year's series. So if they could do that then, why not now?

I think this is connected with celebrations for the 1997 champions and not necessarily the World Series proper, so we can hope for Boston to at least do one of these.

1929 cover is not mine.

I think I've read two things about rounders. One was George Plimpton's book about his amateur pitching experience. The other was this month's New Yorker piece (not for the squeamish) about Jane Leavy
