Been wanting a 9x1 for a while. Didn't expect to get an unused one.
This was sold by the auction house as used with "premium red cancel". Surprising to see that kind of mistake, but, I'm a happy camper.

Very nice.

Looks like yours is Type IV with respect to the initials. AC is joined but M is not connected. This is noted as a fairly common variety.

The lack of knowledge among some professionals is truly amazing.

That same seller in the same auction had this number 1 pair. It sure looks like 1a, blackish brown, to me which would be a cv of $2500 for the pair rather than $850. Somebody won the lot for $500.

Look at Franklin's eyes on each stamp in the pair though.

Something has seriously affected the left 5c stamp in that pair. It looks like some sort of chemical reaction, but possibly could be an abrasion or other type of mishap.

At first glance, I would put almost all of the value in that pair with the right stamp only.

From the looks of the pics, I certainly hope the buyers got valid certificates with these.

Yes, I was not aware of the signature variations until I looked it up in the catalog after buying. The most common is ACM all connected. I looked through Siegel's power search and didn't see any AC connected like this. So, that's interesting. Quite happy to add it to my collection. I have an unused proof from the "sheet of 9" (9X1P5b) also bought cheap because the seller didn't know what it was (I got it certed). I'll have to mark this as my bargain page.

Try searching under 9X1a and I think you will see quite a few pop up on powersearch at Siegel.
