This may be the wrong place to post this but here goes.

I am looking to trade a used Scott #26 87R15 for a Scott #26 18L28 to help fill a gap in my Scott 26 collection.

Are there unique characteristics for the 18L28?

Sorry, I should have been clearer. That's the Quadruple Plate Flaw.

Cover dealers are often overwhelmed and don't have time to look for plate varieties. I got this item several years ago for $20.

I recognized it almost immediately as the quad flaw. What's great is the cancel largely avoids the 'flaw'--something quite out of the ordinary.

P.S. I have the plate 15 DT too.

Nice. I'm hoping for one as yours with an unobstructed view of the flaws but a bit better centered. Thanks for sharing!

I've bought a couple 18L28's on ebay and resold one of them. Neither was described as such, although the one on cover that I sold was marked "4 ears"!... must have been an old name for the flaw.

AJ, this months AP magazine includes an ad for the only other unused 87R15 I knew of and which sold recently on Siegel for about $1,300. The new owner is willing to part with it (on a Special Ad price) for $7,800.

Caper123. Thanks for the update on sales figures.

Permit me to say also that I would feel the same about condition if I were a plating specialist or 3-cent specialist. However, my specialty is paper. That doesn't mean I would turn away a rare plate variety, just the opposite. They are very good for reference purposes.
