Hi , Here is what I believe this stamp to be. An 1840's ( excuse for the condition , that's how I originally bought it ), stamp with an border essay by Charles Whitting. Correct me if I am wrong. Also how rare really is this stamp ? I know it dates with a similar style ( Queen Victoria ) to the time of the Penny Black . Let me know !

It's a damaged cut-out from postal stationery. It's worth nothing.

SellingPower, these things are called "cut squares" if they are in decent shape and are this day and age collected preferably as "entires", the complete cove. The thing you show is badly damaged as mentioned

Thank you very much ! That is very good to know, I am very happy to finally find out what it is. As I think I mentioned, I am a beginner at collecting so you guys are really helping me out. Thanks ! Also Thank you so much Rod222 for including a very detailed description of the stamp and a photo of identical ones . That was very hard for me to find by myself.

It's not a stamp, SP. It's something printed onto an envelope so you don't need a stamp.

You run into many such badly mutilated items in ancient albums and collections.

The most mundane badly mutilated fragments can still be fascinating to collector whom cares to inspect closely.

In my block of images the top right hand mutilated piece, holds a secret code in the Postmark, for time.
