I recently got this 94 and 94a and they look pretty good to me. I wonder if anyone sees any problems with them - especially the perfs. What do you think - would these get a grade of 90 or better?

Also wondering if I have them switched? Colors on these are hard.

Check the one on the left for being an E grill. The one on the right has been reperfed on the right.

Actually, only two colors found on 1867-68; claret and rose brown. These two of yours are medium claret (left) and pale rose brown (right).

Claret has a wide range of hues, hard to quantify at times. It's one of my personal favorites.

Pale rose brown is closer to a light brown. The scan in this case is set too bright and so you can't see the brown color properly.

It should be noted that "rose" is actually a darker shade. Below is a swatch of china rose. This isn't the actual color, but gives you an idea of what rose looks like.

Thank you @rogdcam and @AJ! Shoot - the one on the left does have an E-grill and not an F! How sure are you about the reperf? The perfs look ragged, but I didn't think they were reperfed. As for the color, Scott lists three colors: 94: red and rose red, and 94a: rose. Is Scott off in its color varieties? It lists Rose, Pale Rose, Rose Red for the E-grill #88 and Lake Red for #88a The A, C, and D grills only are listed in Rose. I have a certified D-grill that looks less orange and more like the rose swatch you posted than these two E/F grills. My objective for this stamp is to collect the major color varieties and grills (minus the unobtainable B-grill) - is Scott leading me astray?

The problem is 160 years of existence; these shades are all at least somewhat fugitive and it's impossible to know the life they led before we get to see them. So what they are today may not be what they started out as. At this point I suspect that a lot of shades are really "ranges".

Assuming there are no faults, if I owned the stamp on the left, I would have it graded. I wouldn't for the one on the right.
