This card apparently was sent to my Dad from a car dealership...It has a Hamilton 1966 cancel, but then they placed a "one cent"" cancel over top on the same day..What or why did this happen..Opinions needed.

Robert

Wert, take another look at the chart and the postmark date. It fits nicely into the 4 cent card rate. Your red rectangle is one cell too low.

I agree with Battlestamps, Your card has 1 meter impression to add 1 cent of postage and 1 machine cancel when it went through the mail.

By the way, there is only one cancel. The 'other' is a meter imprint which is postage - not a cancel.

Robert, don't fret about it. Remember, "To err is human." We have all made mistakes at one time or another. Remember mine. Hmm! You encouraged me to continue posting, so now it's my turn. Carry on good buddy.

We are all here for the same reason, to gather new information and share our knowledge with others.

Nice upgraded card too.

Not stupid at all, just showing the learning curve in action. I did the same today on another venue.

Also - this was obviously a commercial (back printed) card mailed through an office mail room where the clerk up-paid to meet the required rate. A teeny bit odd they didn't have penny stamps for the purpose. Would have been a whole lot more efficient.

It's not too surprising or odd. I've seen this on U.S. postal cards when the rates went up. Examples from the U.S. below.
