New Member Into Classics With Scan Question

Hi Every Body!! Burnside Bob here.

I'm new at Stamp Community and thought I'd introduce myself.

I collected stamps 60 years ago and now that I'm retired I've dusted off that good stuff and am wondering how to organize it.

I'm particularly interested in US stamps up thru the Columbian Exposition series and for some reason find the Officials 1873-1879 fascinating.

Anyhow, like most new comers, I've got a few stamps I have questions about and I'm hoping the Stamp Community can help me to a better understanding of what I have. To do that in an intelligent way, I'll need to do some scanning, which brings up my first newbie question, namely what is the best scan resolution for posting to Stamp Community.

Here's a Scott 189 with an interesting cancel at 600 dpi:

The image you posted above is fine for general ID purposes. Of course you can always scan at higher resolutions and then crop the image to 'zoom in' to a specific detail if necessary.

Thanks, Don, for the feedback on scan resolution. I'll do 1200 dpi for closer work.

Another newbie question and I'll give a specific example. I have three stamps, all of the Scott A140 design and all with Scharback Type III perfs., that I would like to get ID'd. Am I better off posting up each stamp separately or all three as a group?

Three stamps in one thread is an acceptable amount, thank you for asking. Some folks will post 12+ stamps and then it gets harder to reference a specific stamp.
