Its a nice cancel and quite a desirable stamp from what I can see in the photo, a scan would tell us a whole lot more.

It is a 3 ring New South Wales Duplex Hand canceller (4 ring types exist, see vayolene's example, part of the CDS can be seen)
This is the "killer" part that cancels the stamp.
The CDS Circular date stamp would appear on the left with town (possibly SYDNEY) The elliptical killer's orientation is vertical to the CDS, with "NSW"
reading downwards.

There are also a number of different types of both the three ring and four ring NSW cancellations, as well as a barred oval NSW canceller.

Yes these NSW duplexes were used in Sydney.
