It is a 3 ring New South Wales Duplex Hand canceller (4 ring types exist, see vayolene's example, part of the CDS can be seen) This is the "killer" part that cancels the stamp. The CDS Circular date stamp would appear on the left with town (possibly SYDNEY) The elliptical killer's orientation is vertical to the CDS, with "NSW" reading downwards.
