Scott 24, Was This Cancel Illegal?

Actually I thought this stamp was attractive so I sat down at desk to try and plate it with my Neinken bible. I'm not so good at plating Scott 24 as I am with all the other types of 1 cent.

Regardless I failed miserably and got on internet for some help. Then I noticed some Scott 24s with southern state cancels (Confederate).

My question: I assume Mobile, Alabama cancel thus confederacy and illegal?
Value higher than general?

It does seem that some 3-cent stamps were used in Mobile at the time, I'm not a Confederate specialist so can't attest to the legality of it.

The year date is smudged on your stamp, so it's hard to say whether or not it was CSA usage.

Illegal to use Union stamps in confederacy June 1, 1861.?

Now that I look at date of cancel, I'm thinking August 25, 1860.

Although as AJ says its difficult to make out year on my stamp.

I'm not a CSA specialist either but I do know that Mobile was Union-occupied at some point, so usage of U.S. stamps was not exactly "illegal", nor should they all be considered a CSA usage.

Union stamps used in Confederate states are known.
But, guess what? Some Confederate stamps were used in Union states too.
Need proof. I have one!
