Thanks, Frank , Postmaster. It is comforting to get help, I was floundering a bit there.
Postmaster, I'll contact you in the new year, awaiting my colleague, see what he has achieved, will probably catch up with David after the tinsel and the holly. Bloated with too much plum pudding, and fizzy drinks.

Update: All sorted, thanks to every one whom replied, SSF is a great resource. My colleague advises me, converted our documents in about 3 mins. AABByy reader was bundled with his new scanner. Scanner was from recommendations from SCF Epson Perfection. Success from Endeavor. |

Rod:
I now have the "PDF-from-image" working. A silly mistake on my part. I have created a PDF of the KGV document you sent me and will forward a copy to you.
Frank. |

Hi Rodney Glad you are straightened out. I did not realize you needed OCR services. I fixed a couple of SplitPDF format errors due to a non XP machine (I assume you are at least on Win 7). SplitPDF will allow one to extract one or more pages, or group of pages, from a PDF to a single file, or a file for each range of pages extracted. There is still an operational bug in that once used on a PDF you have to exit and re-start for another PDF. The operational re-cycle has a "boo-boo" which I will eventually fix, once I find the error. Jerry B |

Hi Frank, Jerry. Thank you.
Yes, all straightened out. I did make an error however, David did use ADOBE from his workplace, not bundled software from epson.
This Adobe is some sort of software (apart from the huge price) it not only does the OCR but improves or upgrades the original material (seems to remove dirt marks and print rubbish from original poorly printed stock) Windows 7 Enterprise Jerry.

Well, I sprung for ABBYY today. (I incorrectly said it cost $US150 but it is actually $CA150 so that helped with the justification.) I was very impressed by its capabilities but the trial version was limited to 3 pages. I now have searchable PDFs for the pre-decimal portions of both the SG catalogues for Australia and New Zealand.
I also tried to generate an MS Word version but that was less impressive. One of the nice features is that it can recognize page footers with page numbers. |

I used to subscribe to Adobe CC which included Acrobat Pro but was never all that impressed. My use centred around InDesign, PageMaker, Pemiere Pro and Audition. In general, I found them all a bit over-complicated and, for example, I would find myself gravitation to CorelDraw rather than PageMaker. I must admit to not having used Acrobat in the last 4 or 5 years and before that I tended to "export to PDF" rather than use Acrobat explicitly, but I found ABBYY so easy to use, particularly when fine tuning the document, and without recourse to help files.
