Reperf refers to the practice of adding perfs to a straight edge stamp ... or improving the appearance of existing perfs on a stamp. There is no attempt to alter the stamp identification. That said, many attempts to enhance a stamp's image are intended to deceive potential buyers. Counterfeit perfs are an attempt to fraudulently alter a stamp's identification. This is often done to mimic the rare compound perfs on some early 20th century U.S. stamps.
