So here is the dilemma. Like many of us I have hundreds upon hundreds of duplicate stamps of various countries. Take for instance Canada Scott number 401.(Not picking on Canada just happens to be what is in front of me at the moment.) There are at least 100s. They are not now nor will they ever be worth anything in used condition. BE HONEST - do you ever just throw them away?

No. There are always collectors who might want them and places to send them.

I keep a box for stuff like this, plus most stamps cut from incoming post, plus damaged, better stamps. It goes off to the charity shop when a collection bag comes around.

No, I never toss stamps. If nothing else I offer them as Stamp Smarter contest prizes, make decoupage art (http://stampsmarter.com/learning/Ho...coupage.html ) or just give them away.

Unless the stamp is damaged I never throw stamps away.

I also have hundreds if not thousands of the same stamps and I keep them because I recently started a dated cancel or calendar collection and will be looking at these stamps if I can add some to my collection.

I estimate that I have over 250,000 (if not more) of the 17c green parliament stamps (790 & 806) as I have started a side collection trying to get a cancel from every post office from the province of Québec just using that stamp and then might expand to other provinces as well.

Not to date, I have multiple cartons of 10 for the penny stamps. I pretend that they will be the filler when I go to sell off my doubles in box lots. Probably not going to happen either.

I have sold my cartons of castoffs at auction and was absolutely stunned at what people paid. Nothing goes in the trash.

I agree with WILLWOOD 42,you use them as filler .When I was selling mixture lots in 2003 ,I was making nice all different stamps lots from my duplicates, then I ran into the "how many stamps that lot contains" crowd .My first negative on ebay feedback was a person I estimated there was 12,000 stamp in a huge box . She got the box and there was only 11,400 stamps so she gave me a negative ......was I mad .....I send her another 3,000 stamps .

Now I keep the "bedding" stamps and fill in each box before giving them to my partner who sells on ebay. Some people just want numbers of how many stamps they get .

I have found that if the same loose stamps that would be tossed in a box are in old glassines the price people pay goes way up. Psychology plays a big role.

Absolutely not. Eventually I will find a way to incorporate them into my collection. I've found some pretty cool, specialized items, amongst hoards of what others consider duplicates.

I never have, but I've got a platic bag full of ugly modern rubbish I have resolved to throw away. It's still sitting there, not thrown away (yet). I get a perverse thrill out of imagining it going into the trash, if I can bring myself to do it.

I'll go against the trend here and say yes I do cull my stamps. But mostly for damaged or unsightly modern cancelled. I'll keep the best 5 or so and get rid of the rest (after checking for varieties/errors of course). Done this mostly with Canada Post 1950, but also some other countries for which I have significant dups.
