Came across this gem which is claimed to be in a mounted mint condition. The gum appears intact, but I can't be certain if it has been regummed. There is a tinge of toning at the top margin which also appears to be a red cancellation. There are gum creases visible on the back and front, which seems to point to orignal gum. I notice two expertising marks at the bottom which appears legit. What do you guys think of this piece and I would appreciate your opinion on what you would pay for this.

Unquestionably genuine in my opinion. Heavily toned gum that is showing on the face of the stamp. Gum crazing consistent with age.

The giveaway is the expertisers handstamps; they're over the gum.

What would be the max you would pay for something like this at auction?

An impossible question to answer without physically looking at the stamp. We are talking about a 2018 SG catalogue price of £38000 for the cheapest example. I would be surprised if it got 10% of that but it may only go for 5%

So, who's the auctioneer?

I would wager £1200 on a good day. Not just "toning," the small round spots on front and back appear to be foxing, which is a form of mold considered a major fault because it can progress over time depending on future storage conditions of the stamp, especially humidity.

SG "values" do not reflect actual market value but rather express a retail price that SG wants to receive at its London high street shop for a very fine, faultless, fresh example with all retail overhead and margin associated with its business.
