Found this while going through a stock book:

Dan's website only lists double transfers at the bottom. Is this a double transfer in the top label?

Closeup of the top:

For comparison, a closeup of the top of another R54c:

Could be. We'd need higher resolution scans. 1600dpi or better (optical resolution not digital interpolated). It looks like there could be doubling in the CE of CENTS, but it could be inking as well.

Dan,

Hopefully this is a better scan. Unfortunately the scanner I have available at the moment only does 600 dpi.

Tom

I can try a higher resolution when I have access to a better scanner.

Based on the new image, there *could* be doubling at the top of the I and Y in FIFTY and the C, E, and N of CENTS... or it could just be inking issues.

1200 dpi. Hope this is better.

Another scan of the "normal" stamp at 1200 dpi:

Yes it is doubled at the top. Typical of the later state of the plate, note the 1869 cancel date.
