Yes, I'm aware that things are pretty dead and a lot of places are closed at New Year's in Japan. That's fine by me, since I was speaking of a concert event featuring my favorite idol groups that has been held every New Year's Eve since 2013 and which would be as perfect a New Year's Eve (for me) as I can imagine. I actually spent a good chunk of this New Year's Eve and New Year's Day watching my 4-DVD set of this event from three years ago — all 7½ hours of it.
I've been to Japan six times at various times of the year, though I've managed to avoid the summer months entirely. My first trip was deliberately aimed at cherry blossom season, and I got to experience hanami in Ueno Park. I caught the plum blossoms at Kitano Tenmangû in Kyoto on my last trip.
