Are the stamps of the country of Taiwan popular area to collect today?

If YES: Who are the primary collectors?

Are they collected by the mainland Chinese collector?

Thanks for any input.
Hal

Hal,
It's trickier than that... Taiwan "separated" from China in 1949 after the Chinese civil war. So stamps issued prior to 1949 are "China".
Is your question about the period after 1949?

Domo! ClassicPhilatelist! Thank you! Okay, so let me re-phrase: Is Post-1949 to present Taiwan-period stamps and post history a popular area to collect today? Where is it popular ?(US, Europe, Asia?) Is this material being collected by collectors in mainland China?

Taiwan/ROC is definitely a popular area to collect today. It is most popular in places with collectors who are ethnic Chinese, which is rather obvious. Note that there are probably more casual collectors trying to speculate in Taiwan stamps. There are probably relatively few collectors in mainland China; it probably would not be seen as appropriate to collect items produced by what is considered a rebel government.

I have to ask, why these posts asking about collecting popularity? Certainly areas that were once extremely popular in the US like Western Europe have lost popularity overall. It remains to be seen if they eventually return to those levels. Me, I'd prefer to stay out of the most popular areas or the flavor-of-the-week. There's a lot of stamp collecting areas out there and a lot more than just collecting one of each mint stamp only.

Thanks, hy-brasil.

Why the posts about collecting popularity? Curiosity and an interest as to current trends. I was having a discussion with a real "old-time" philatelist/dealer who is in his 90's and is still selling on ebay. The discussion came up on which countries are popular and which are dead. Since I'm not in tune with the Asian philatelic market, why not ask members of the Forum?!? The SCF is a good knowledgeable group and who knows, I could always learn something.

Thanks again, for taking the time to respond.

Happy New Year, hy-brasil!

Best,
Hal
