dadinda, The first identification step is to gauge the perforations, a 596 is perforation 11 x 11.
What did you get when you checked the perforations on your stamp? Don |

This stamp has a corner repair. (Upper right isn't even the same color as the rest of the stamp). As Don mentions, check the perf, but check against the sides that don't have repairs on them. The cancellation isn't a pre-cancel. The ink has run through the stamp on the cancellation it's probably faked, in an attempt to fool someone into believing it might be a 596.

I did a search & checked:
This is the 33rd distinct thread - in the last year alone - that specifically asks about 596. There were several others mixed into other threads.
We've hit the 596 jackpot...
(We should start looking for the holy grail!!) |

Time for a new webpage article were we can simply link folks instead of all these redundant threads and posts. I'll see if I can pull something together. Don |

Or create a "sticky" thread at the top of the section, merge all 596 threads into it and label the new thread "If you think you have a Scott 596 start here", link them to stamp smarter and then we could contain them into 1 thread permanently. Hopefully that will force the realization trigger in the brain. |

I just read the 596 threads and I'm worn out. Could someone put together a simple tutorial with a step by step 596 id process similar to the Stamp Smarter Washington Franklin tool. Maybe show how to use a perf gauge etc. and then include this in the sticky suggested above? |

Forget 596-just find me "the more common" 594, and I will be impressed! |
