Qasr al-Azraq is a large fortress located on the outskirts of present-day Azraq in eastern Jordan. It protects the nearby oasis, the only water source in a vast desert region. The castle was built in the 4th century and rebuilt in 1237.
Aqaba Fortress is located on the coast of Gulf of Aqaba, protecting the port of Aqaba, Jordan. It was originally built by Crusaders in the 12th century, destroyed in 1187, and rebuilt in the early 16th century.

Palamidi is nestled on the crest of a 216-meter high hill near the town of Nafplio in southern Greece. The fortress was built by the Venetians during their second occupation of the area (1686-1715). It commands an impressive view over the Argolic Gulf and the surrounding area.

Fortress of San Leo is located on the border of the Romagna and Marche. The first fortification on the top of the mountain was built by the Romans. In the Middle Ages it was bitterly fought over by the Byzantines, Goths, Franks and Lombards. The present-day fortress was rebuilt in 1441.
