Slovakia Splendors of Homeland July 19, 1995 Spiš Castle is situated above the town of Spišské Podhradie and the village of Žehra in eastern Slovakia. The Romanesque stone castle with fortifications was built in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 15th century.  |

It was built in 1541 on the orders of Hassan Pacha. Fort of Gouraya is a French military work carried out by Lemercier. It was built after the capture of the city of Béjaďa by the French in 1833.  |

Asen's Fortress is located in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains, on a rocky ridge on the left bank of the Asenitsa River. The defensive position has been in use since the days of the Thracians. The structures today was built by Tsar Ivan Asen II in the 13th century.  |

Malta Maltese Castles and Towers September 29, 2006 Fort San Lucian is a large bastioned watchtower in Marsaxlokk, Malta. The original tower was built between 1610 and 1611. It was rebuilt as a polygonal fortress in the 1870s. Today the fort houses the Malta Aquaculture Research Center.  |

Cyprus EUROPA - Architecture April 24, 1978 Kolossi Castle is a former Crusader stronghold on the southwest edge of Kolossi village. The original castle was possibly built in 1210. The present castle was built in 1454 by the Hospitallers under the Commander of Kolossi.  |
