After the Treaty of London most of the complex star fortifications of Luxembourg were dismantled; they are shown in the architects' drawing of earlier times on the stamp of 1967. The stamp posted yesterday shows what is left of the fortifications - still an amazing amount. The old part of the city is perched on the red area.

Hi Alexey, Interesting that St. Petersburg was also a star fortress! K.

Possibly the most impenetrable modern barrier to human movement separates the two Koreas. It is often called the "demilitarized zone", but it has thousands of military personnel on active duty patrolling and maintaining not a wall but a barrier of barbed wire. South Korea issued a stamp in 2010 with a drawing of the wire and a delicate butterfly.

Two more stamps illustrating scenes from the demarcation zone between the Koreas were issued in 2017. One shows a kingfisher on a newer kind of wire called concertina wire; instead of barbs, razor-sharp knives are mounted on the main wire.
