After the Treaty of London most of the complex star fortifications of Luxembourg were dismantled; they are shown in the architects' drawing of earlier times on the stamp of 1967. The stamp posted yesterday shows what is left of the fortifications - still an amazing amount. The old part of the city is perched on the red area. Austria 1983 Scott 1253 300th Anniversary of the relief of Vienna. The imperial city was besieged by 150,000 Ottoman Turkish troops which was defeated by combined Polish and German imperial forces led by King Sobieski of Poland.
