Venetian Walls are a series of defensive walls which surround the capital city of Nicosia in Cyprus. The first city walls were built in the Middle Ages, but they were completely rebuilt in the mid-16th century. The walls are still largely intact, and are among the best preserved Renaissance fortifications in the Eastern Mediterranean.

On August 2, 2018 Ireland issued eight computer-vended stamps from its ninth definitive series "a History of Ireland in 100 Objects." One of these stamps depicts an overhead, photographic view of the "Rock of Cashel" in County Tipperary.

Travnik Fortress

Travnik Fortress is a 15th century stone complex on the hillside overlooking the town of Travnik. The present walls and towers were constructed by Turkish builders of military fortifications.

This 1982, 25 zloty stamp (Sc. #2528) of Poland features the detail of a large 17th century painting showing the 1655 siege of the fortified Jasna Gora Monastery near Czestochowa. It is from a set of 3 stamps honoring the Black Madonna of Czestachowa, a venerated icon of the Virgin Mary.

In November and December of 1655, Polish forces at Jasna Gore monastery, armed with superior artillery, repelled a much larger Swedish force largely composed of foreign mercenaries.
