Full Gum On Back Of Stamp

This stamp is clearly used but has full gum on back. Normal?

Someone practicing their regumming technique?

I do not know anything about the color or consistancy of the gum on these.

There are some different possibilities.

One way to check for possible regumming is to gently let your finger run down the side of the perfs. The edges should be soft. If they are hard there is a good chance it was regummed. Also look at the perf edges. Do they have gum on them? They should be fiberous looking from when the stamp was seperated from others.

It may also be possible that the stamp was barley attached or sweated off. What gum remained and under some pressure could have been redistributed.

Stamp were gummed and then perforated; they were then removed from each other. So perf tips will not have any gum globs on them. Poorly regummed stamps typically are dark from the globs of gum on them. Sometimes a faker will file the perf tips to remove the gum, but filed perfs are usually easy to spot too.

Otherwise, some stamps can be streamed off paper and retain a fair amount of gum. Additionally, US postage due stamps were sometimes cancelled as complete sheets but never applied to any paper.
