Could someone advise if this indeed would be Scott 554 2c Carmine , used with NY cancel sock on nose? I think is perf 11 x 12 , thanks!

Perfs on the top and sides look the same to me. It's not the count of perfs, but the number of perfs per 2 CM. So it looks like perf 11, Scott 554.

Stamp Smarter has a downloadable perforation gauge that you can print to get you started. Plenty of other info on perforations and identifying US stamps over there as well if you want more detail.
