Any thoughts about how the backstamps could be applied UNDER the closing flap?? These appear to be in 1888-90 year range. The top ones are normal, but the other 4 are all continued UNDER the flaps! Did Farmington Ill have a curious postal worker wanting to read mail? It is rather curious that all 4 are from the same town.....

While your scans don't show the entire front/back, I'll bet that the last 4 covers have 1 cent stamps on them - and were sent at a 3rd class circular or printed matter rate, thus required to be unsealed. The flaps were originally just tucked-in. They may now be stuck to the back to give an illusion of sealing. Showing the full front and back sides helps in interpreting postal history.
