On this Travancore state issue I can make out "...HUCKAL..." in the postmark but none of the sources I know come up with that combination in an Indian placename. Can anyone help. Thanks in advance.

I think you've got it! Here's a quote from Wiki: "Thuckalay is a part of Padmanabhapuram, which was once the capital of the historic Indian state of Travancore." Many thanks!

Nice find, A tricky one to find on my Travancore Anchal Mail System. Vicinity of the Thiruvithamcode district. Perhaps the mail from Thuckalay to Eraniel was a mail runner in the early days? |

The Takkalai postmark on Tiruvitamkur 1943 8 Kashu on 6 Kashu SG O105b is Mus type XI cds which is quite common.
Scarcer are the postmarks from Non-Departmental/Extra- Departmental Branch Anchal Offices (Anchal means Post).
Takkalai (8.2426°N 77.3152°E) is now located in Kanniyakumari district of Tamizh Nadu, which once was part of the minority Tamizh-speaking area of Tiruvitamkur state which is why mail emanating from Takkalai AO, which functioned as a Departmental AO in Padmanabhapuram Division of Tiruvitamkur Anchal, are often found written in Tamizh than in more prevalent state language Malayalam.
It may mentioned that there were 8 Postal Divisions of Tiruvitamkur Anchal viz., Alappuzha, Kollam, Kottayam, Mavelikkara, Muvattupuzha, Padmanabhapuram, Tiruvanantapuram and High Range.

Here's another postmark that is elusive: I've tried fallingrain and the usual sources, but I have virtually no expertise with India postmarks, except that to realize that they are difficult! This one seems to read TAMEIL The T and M are guesses, but I think probably correct. It looks like there should be at least one more letter after the L. Hi rod222 from Belgian RR stamps -- you have eclectic interests, it appears! |

Hi Tohil, Unable to assist, due to Anglicising, these can be a tough ask. I thought ?AREIL? looked more promising, Without a leading letter, makes it even tougher.
