SARKARI (SG type O1) ovpt. on 1929 ˝A Endangered Species of Indian Leonine:
Panthera leo leo Linné 1758 of Gir gray blue and graphite typograph official stamp (SG O2a) with perf.14, printed in sheets of 40 (5×8) as well as overprinted in letterpress by India Security Press, Nashik Road and officially released on October 1,1929 vide Government of Junagarh Notification No.11 dt. August 17,1929 issued by the Office of the Diwan of Junagarh State.
The image of the Gir lion in the stamp was based on a photograph taken in Junagarh State Zoological Garden, Junagarh.
Usage: The ˝A denomination was specifically issued to pay the basic state letter postage for weight upto 29.15gm (2˝ tola), the rate in effect from October 1,1929 to March 31,1943.
Postmark: It is Wood and Meher type PM28/Malaviya type 22 double-circular postmark (diameter: 3cm) of Junagarh HPO (est. 1864) of Saurashtra State Post.
Incidentally, this postmark cannot be termed cds as it is undated.
This is a very common stamp which was/is almost always found in stamp dealer's IFS starter packs.
