On November 15, 1865 Newfoundland issued this 2 cent codfish stamp.
Scott #24

It was reissued because it was said that the designer of the stamp had omitted the split in the tail and was "corrected" in the January 1, 1882 reissue of the stamp. Scott#46,48

There is only one problem with all of this. The Atlantic codfish does NOT have a split tail. It is described as a "broom" shaped tail as pictured below.

Just clouding the issue with facts

The experts must have gotten involved to create such a monumental blooper like that.

Well said.

I find design errors far more interesting than printing errors. These are the ones that should never happen and the story behind them can be fascinating.

john62..I had posted a lot of these a couple of years ago, but just can't find it right now.

Yes, your are correct about the cod fish, but there are errors (printer lea way) like the Scott 62 stamp below. It is a stamp showing the profile of Cabot..BUT, BUT..There was NO picture/drawing of Cabot so ABN and Canada Post decided to use a picture of Cabot's son as a replacement..Strange but true...See attachment below.

Wert, one way to find those difficult to find posts is to check your previously uploaded images, which will have the date it was posted. Then track down what you posted on that date. It would be nice if the uploaded image would link back to the post it was used in.

Wert

Absolutely correct on the likeness of Cabot.

I read your older posts and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
Thanks so much for sharing the information.

Charles Jeens did the design, the American Banknote did the tail.
