I have always embraced the marriage of technology and our hobby. But even more than that I have always believed that the internet is simply the latest evolutionary step in postal systems. It is the current way that humans reach out and communicate with one another.

So in the same way that the Penny Black was the first postage stamp, what was the very first website? The first website was published at Cern and it still exists today. You can view it here

I'm sure Mr Berners-Lee will have his own stamp one day (if he hasn't already).

Very interesting Don. Hasn't it come a long way in a relatively short period of time!

I have been watching Valley of the Boom about the beginnings and it is fascinating.

But I'm confused....

Didn't Al Gore invent the internet and the world wide web?

(Hopefully everyone remembers that kerfuffle and knows it was bogus...)

Hi Don

Great Website. I wrote many TCP/IP and FTP software applications. The Protocols were most interesting to me.

Thanks for posting.

I liked the instructions for writing a 3-line web server in bash to serve a text file.

I lived it ... in the Valley. Some scenes are exaggerated in typical entertainment fashion, but the majority of it feels accurate. One irony is that California's current employment and tax policies are so non-competitive that virtually the entire production was shot in Vancouver.

Berners-Lee and Gore each have to be dead to appear on US stamps. Thanks for the images redwoodrandy!
