3c Washington Color Help Please

I'm having a hard time determining the shade of this 3c stamp I recently found in a family photo album from the period. I did try comparing to an online color guide and am just too much of a novice (aka family historian) to make an ID. Would really appreciate any help from someone with more expertise.

You have found one of the trickier stamps for the inexperienced to ID. Based on the color that is see here (and that is always tricky because monitors, cameras, lighting all influence what it's "real" color would be). But that said, it looks to be a Scott #65, a very common stamp for the period. This one is interesting though, appears damaged (tear at the left, looks like a tear or crease in the top as well, and bottom left perf and top right perf also creased). But it is unused, so that would have made it a much more valuable stamp. The other issue is, this issue could also have a grill impression on the back. If you turn the stamp over and shine a light from left to right at a sharp angle to the stamp, if you could send a photo of that I can further ID it for you. If it is an unused 65 with original gum still in tact, it would have a Catalog Value of $125, but the damage to this stamp will bring that down to about 10% - 20% of value. Those small folded areas of the stamp can be smoothed out to give it a better appearance, but must be done with care.

Wow! Thanks so much for the great information, ClassicPhilatelist. It does have a tear at the left and at the center top (maybe it was folded in half or in quarters at one point?). Here is an image of the back with some light at an angle...hope it works. Thanks again for taking the time to help!
