The Dead Branch Color Missing

Just came across this, thought it was interesting, so I thought I would share it with all of you.

My opinion is post production contamination, like a drop of bleach. There was no brown in this stamp.

It looks like the top section of the C for cents, after 6, is bent inwards to me, which would make this a plate variety.

To be a plate variety you would need to prove it with multiple stamps.

I believe the OP is talking about the "burning branch" in the tree. This sort of thing is very common on stamps printed on the Giori
press when two colors were printed.

I know we are looking at the 'burning bush' on the right side of the bush, but the left side of that same bush under the windows looks different as well. Just interesting. Roll Tide....Greg

Uh, no. Colors are only dark blue, red, and green.


Agreed, the Giori colors don't always print where intended. There was a thread last year about the whooping cranes on Scott 1098, Wildlife Conservation issues of 1957.

Just a few 1338's I found handy, note the inking of the red/blue of the stripes and stars. The red is just into the top of the wording and denomination on the 3rd stamp. Although not obvious here, the break between the blue White House and the surrounding greenery is quite variable on this issue.

Don, it is as Peter says - a mix of red and green from a stray red drop.
