I got these from a dealer table and thought they were interesting to speculate about.

Here is my take on what these envelopes MAY have contained. The Chas. Lindbergh kidnapping case had been a national sensation in 1934-35. Governor Harold G. Hoffman was the Governor in New Jersey during and after the trial. These envelopes MAY have contained pleas for mercy for Bruno Hauptmann, or just as easily, they may have been letters pleading for the execution be completed! Just as easily, they may have been nothing more than a request for the Governors favorite recipe.
Hauptmann was found guilty on Feb 13th 1935 but due to an appeal on Dec 9 1935, and a temporary reprieve of his death sentence on Jan 17th 1936, Hauptmann was re-sentenced to death during the week of Mar 30 1936. Another Petition for Clemency was denied on Mar 30th and Bruno Hauptmann was finally executed on April 3 1936.
I have no idea of what the contents of the envelopes were, but given the times, dates and Special Delivery markings, my uneducated guess is that they may have been linked to the case in some fashion.
Every time I look at these it drives me crazy not knowing what was in them....!!
Any thoughts????
