Am seeking assistance in differentiating between the Japan 1914/25 series and Japan 1924/33 series. Specifically, differentiating btwn "old die" and "new die" stamps.

Understand there can be a 0.5 mm size difference btwn some of the stamps. However, this very modest size difference has proven problematic.

All my stamps are watermark 141 ("zig zag" lines).

Scott says the 1914/25 series is "granite paper". Which Scott defines as "filled with minute cloth or colored paper fibers of various colors or lengths". All of the stamps I am trying to identify feature very short lengths of colored fibers including grey and/or black.
Does this mean all of my stamps are from the 1914/25 series?

Lastly, these stamps include shade varieties. Especially the 1/2 Sen value.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Please post scans of front and back of stamp, much easier to identify paper differences with an illustration. If no scans are available, close cropped photos will work.
Re: the 1/2 mm size difference.. rather than trying to measure it, compare the printed stamp images to each other which will show the differences easily.

Welcome Calstamp

It does sound like you have the granite paper varieties. Scott's listing of these stamps is rather inadequate as there are a lot of perforation varieties too.

They are one of the most interesting and affordable issues from Japan to study.

Please post up some pictures when you can.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my query. Since I rely chiefly on Scott, was unaware of the significant number of varieties specific to this series.

Hironobu, your goscf citations are especially appreciated.
