I have been searching for quite some time to find a well centered Unitrade 103. It's the Cartier's arrival 20¢ stamp which if anyone who collects older Canada knows how difficult these are to obtain for a reasonable price. I found one in a local auction and was able to snag it for $70. Imagine my disappointment when I scanned it in a saw the upper right crease!! This was not mentioned in the auction description and the details of their auction pictures aren't the best for finding detail. I really do think returning it will be best.

I am with you.
I am not in the rarified atmosphere of paying $70 for a single stamp, but should I be, I would be very disappointed.
That is a major crease in my opinion.

Now I'm really upset. The only one Saskatoon stamp center has similar is £175. They list it as "lightly hinged" where mine is just previously hinged. £170 is equal to $222.00 USD so at $70 would have been a great buy. Now I'm starting to think I'm the only one that didn't see the crease? The other Canadian lots didn't attract many bids either so could have also been a "not a Canadian collector" audience.

Here is a link to the auction, it';s lot #152. Please let me know what you think of their image and if you can clearly see the crease. After reading this you know it's there so you are looking for it but somehow try to look at it as if you never read this thread.

Stallzer - The image is of poor quality and I have to say that there is no way I can detect a crease. I dealt with Golden Valley once in the past and that was enough for me. It was US material that all had undisclosed issues.

Stalzer, you have the option of sending it back if you want.

1) The image is not in focus, it is extremly hard to see the crease unless it was pointed out to you.
2) The item is described as VF, LH--- there is no CR or mention of a crease in the description.

According to the bidding rules you have 10 days to return an item from date of receipt if it is not as represented or misdescribed. And in my opinion it is not as described. It should have been listed as LH F-VF centering with CR and a couple shorter perfs.

So it is totaly up to you, call and talk with them and let them know, and if you decide to return it get them to cover the postage costs both ways as it is their mistake and responsibility and mail it.

Mike

I would return it. They usually identify the flaws in the stamps at auction. I returned some misidentified large Hermès stamps with no problem.

It depends on the rarity of the stamp. I bought a creased stamp through auction recently with the seller not disclosing the crease, but decided to keep it coz another one is extremely hard to come by.

A lady I know is charming, intelligent, I have lots of time for her company, but she has a "beauty mark" at the side of her nose and every time we chat I can't help but notice it.

You'll notice the crease every time you look at the stamp, and will have to decide how much it bothers you. I'd say $70 was full retail for that one.

Looks like the old adage of "if it looks too good to be true" just kicked in. I've won probably 20 -25 lots from this auction / stamp company over the last year or 2 and this is the first piece I've had issue with. They seem like nice enough people so I don't think I will have any issues sending it back. Oh well, back to the hunt!

Keep looking, and sure one will turn up! I found a #103 recently for $26 that is comparable to that one. So at that price, quite happy.

Sorry to hear about the problem. By all means, do send it back.

If I had knowledge of scanning, I'd show my VF centered, mint LH, Quebec 20 cent value, and the almost gem centered LH 10 cent Quebec. The "catch" is that I bought both right out of college, in the 1970s, when I was really into Canada.
