Okay, I'm not the sharpest tool in the drawer. I can't find a catalogue for Argentina!

My assumption is that South American or Latin countries would be included in a larger catalogue like Scott, but which one?

Thanks, I'm having one of those moments your parents warned you about if you didn't stop sniffing glue!

Hi Moyock13,

I'd assume that in the multi volume Scott world catalogues that Argentina would be volume 1. From memory, the USA is at the start of volume 1 followed by the rest of the world in alphabetical order but hopefully someone else can confirm

If you try the Vera Tinder online store they list the "Teggia" as THE Argentine catalogue

Peter, I have to admit I was a little skeptical at first. I searched on Vera Tinder and ended up on some dating site! Then I tried a few other searches and finally ended up on the correct site but when I went to the Teggia all I would get was a 404 error.
I'll keep looking for the new site to work. Thanks.

I've pulled down the Argentine free Catalogue in Spanish. Now the next dilemma is converting it to english. Any ideas?

Don, does Stamp Smarter translate, too?

I've tried Google Translate and a few other translation services online, no luck. I can muck my way through using Google Translate but it's time consuming.

I'm in the process of translating "The Secrets of the Kidd" by Jean-Paul Marais
Argentine Collection from Spanish to English, very time consuming.

Of course, I could just purchase the Scott Vol1 catalogue and be done with it.

But where's the fun in that!

Moyock13: you could also try a good Spanish-English dictionary.

I got a good paperback Portuguese-English dictionary a few years ago, to help me with my Portugal and colonies collections. I have several catalogues in Portuguese, such as Mundifil and the older Eladio de Santos. The dictionary helped immensely. I also have Scott catalogues. The rest was just knowing the stamps.

Moyock13:

I have had much better translation success with the DeepL translator, both with German and Spanish. See at...

https://www.deepl.com/en/translator

One problem with translating philatelic materials is the specialized terminology. I was translating some Mexican Guia Postal, or their Postal Guides, and I had to occasionally give it some help.

I had some similar issues translating some German censorship catalog entries. Be patient, and work systematically. Keep a parallel document in MS Word or whatever your word processor of choice might be so you don't lose you work.

In the long run its worth it.

Yeah, a dictionary is my fallback. As is Google Translate.

I'm discovering that the Argentine PDF online catalogue is somewhat proprietary or at least some of the formatting isn't recognized by Word. The DeeplL Translator requires a .docx or .pptx file which isn't the hard spot. It's moving from the PDF to a .docx file following with correct formatting.

So, i'll build my cheat sheet of Spanish terms and keep it handy. And who knows, maybe some day I'll move beyond being monolingual.
