..... on stamps from 1850's and 1860's

What do they look like?

I have some of this age with a circle shaped group of parallel lines with the word "CANCELLED" in the middle.(Odd that a Hispanophone country would cancel their stamps with an English-language stamp.)

The fiscal cancellation decimates the stamps value, I guess because it is not postal use. Or is there another reason?

Thanks
Dave

The word cancelled was placed there by the printer, Casa de Moneda y Especies Valoradas, and as such quite collectible, although not particularly valuable.

Does that make it a precancel? Or remainders? Or fiscal use?

C.

Thanks for replying. I was beginning to wonder if I had stumped everyone!

This looks like a rubber stamp, not printing. Were these hand-stamped by the printer?

As soon as I can, I'll supply some pictures.

Dave

Hi

This "Cancelled" is simply a postmark of normal postal usage in those years in Chile.

These postmarks arrived to the country in 1861 (from London) with a new delivery of stamps printed by Perkins, Bacon & Co. (Scott 11,12,13) and was used until 1880's.
Here some examples :

Strip of Scott nr.12

Best regards
