Post Office Mail Delivery

My Priority Mail package has been sitting in the local Post Office for 3 days with this explanation:

"We were unable to attempt delivery of your item on February 25, 2019 due to hazardous or unsafe weather conditions. Your item will go out for delivery on the next business day as conditions permit."

Ironically the Post office is still able to fill my mail box with junk mail everyday.

This shows us what mail truly has priority !!!

It might also explain why the USPS is losing money hand over fist. An overhaul of how the department is administered may be in order?

Don't expect logic from the USPS. Here's tracking information on a package I recently followed.

It was supposed to go from Detroit, Mi to Traverse City, Mi. About 255 miles NW of Detroit.

Here's where it went:
Detroit to Grove City Ohio (about 200 miles South of Detroit) OK. wrong truck maybe...

From Grove City it went to Bensenville, IL. 374 miles (Near Chicago) Oops,missed the state again!

From Bensenville, IL it went to Grand Rapids, Mi. 197 miles. Getting close. Right state!

Finally it went from Grand Rapids to Traverse City (143 miles)

Yeah, federal news says that the USPS is losing $1.5B this fiscal year.

USPS returned an envelope with this rubber stamped 'postage due' note on a Post-It for 20 cents. I took it up to the counter, lady weighed it, put it through that plastic template thingy, did a couple circles standing in place, and then she just looked at me and told me she has no idea why it came back.

By the way, what happened to the good ole days, where a postage due, looked good on an envelope! :)

A few years ago, I mailed out a few letters with stamp packets (of 50 stamps, as I recall) to stamp traders. I weighed them at home and put on the proper postage for the weight. They were all returned as being too thick. I took them to the counter, and the postal worker took out the thickness template. It's a piece of cardboard (maybe it was plastic) with a slot in it, of a specific width, to check the thickness. If the letter falls straight through the slot, unimpeded, then the letter is not too thick. They tested my letters - ZIP! Straight through, no problem. The worker then made up a cock-and-bull story saying that I still owed the extra 10c apiece because they had to take the time to test it!!!!! I kid you not. I demanded to speak to the postmaster (this is a PO in a town of over 100k people, so it is a large facility, so this wasn't the postmaster/pharmacist/mayor), and she backed the postal worker! There were 3 or 4 letters, total, so we are talking about 30c or 40c, but it was all about the principal. The postal workers didn't understand that. 'Principal', I mean.

Today's visit to the post office .----As most of you know I have a local friend who sells coins and stamps on EBAY. I made a agreement with him to sell my stuff and we share in the work and the profit,he lives on a limited Social Security check .

Today he handed me 5 packages to take to the post office ,these were 13 oz. large envelopes filled with stamps on and off paper .He had already put what we both figured as correct postage . At the post office they had to weight each one and figure out the delivery zone on each and charged us additional postage due to the distance from Florida .


When did first class mail need Zones ? It took the clerk twice as long to process weight and zone then figure amount due and ask for additional payment ....yes they made a extra $.47 sale on three envelope but stood there for 4 minutes extra. How is this going to cover the $1.5 billion dollar defecit , just backed up the people inline and took extra employee time .

Yep! The increased January postal rates established zones for first class packages.

So ,the way this works if a customer buys 30 covers in a box lot ,they could pay $5.19 for shipping if they live in Georgia and if they live in California they pay $6.19 shipping .....so how do you run your EBAY lot as $6.19 for shipping ? Then your one Georgia customer pays more ?. Maybe charge everybody $5.70 and hope for equal balance .

Yes, the zones for first class is something that takes more time to determine. It was easy before. As floortrader mentioned, this extra time is for just a few cents usually.

The idea that the Post office is bleeding money fast, is because they were forced to fully fund the employees pension fund through the year 2025, for all of the current employees.

FLOORTRADER crying again on chat board ----What is the POST OFFICE thinking .

We mailed out 150 on paper stamps for $3.00 plus 75 cents postage . Envelope comes back as undelivered . Postage due on the envelope as undelivered was $2.91 due ?????? Really

Now watch EBAY demand we refund the customer $3.75 because we are trying to rip-off a customer ,never mine we got 2,560 positive feedbacks on EBAY .

floortrader: It's probably because your shipment's dimensions did not qualify for letter rate and it was deemed a parcel thus the postage due. It was probably too thick to be a letter.

Your right BATTLESTAMPS , one of the three glassine envelopes spilled out and cause the stamps to settle at one end of the envelope ,resulting a thicker envelope during shipping on one side . Thanks ,corrected it and remailed it today .
