HI all

I came across this 1927 ad showing packages of raw movie film stock with $1,300 worth of US postage on them.

Thought maybe specialists here can tell which issue they are... including plate varieties... (heheeeheee!)

Was this the type of film that was highly flammable?

What intrigues me, is how you managed to post such a large image ?
I thought 200Kb was the limit.

Yup:

The explosive material they talk about is cellulose.

@rod222 he's hosted the image on another site. It's just "showing" in his posting here.
If you upload directly to this site (which is usually the "easiest" way to go about it), then 200kb is your limit, though I find it's closer to 236k...

Right! Thanks CP.
That had me wondering........

I guess the downside is that if Nells moves, or whatever, we lose the image here.

That type film was so highly flammable it wasn't even permitted to be carried on street cars or busses in certain areas during that time period! I'm surprised they allowed it to be transported on trains or airplanes.

That early film was called Nitrate, and YES it was highly flammable. In fact, a LOT of silent films do not last for that very reason.

Also, YES, I uploaded that image to my own web-space... I pay $$ for it so I decided to use it ;-)

Lastly, I am a SHE, not a HE (common mistake)

;-)

$1300 in 1927 would be $18,806 today. The $10 Waves of Color stamp only comes in sheets of 10, so that would be 188 sheets. I think a coil stamp roll (or rolls, plural) wrapped around the package would have been a nice touch.

Anyone know what the highest postage paid on a single item was?
