At SCADS (Stamp Collectors Against Dodgy Sellers), we identified NYStamps as an untrustworthy seller nearly 20 years ago. They constantly misidentified US classic stamps as always the more expensive variety, sold lots and lots of fake Washington/Franklin "coils" as genuine, fake 315s, and more.
Believe it or don't, after we called them out for it, they actually started to clean up their act but I haven't followed them in years.
For your future reference, here is a site that has large beautiful color pictures of all US/UK stamps, including many of the back of the book stamps, up until about 1956, with a wealth of information on each. They also have tutorials on fakes, spotting cancel removals (which I authored). There are also many of my graphics on how to tell the various varieties apart on early US classics. He also has a long listing of
ebay stamp sellers that will tell you who you can trust and who you can't.
This is an award winning site, one of the best on the internet. Bookmark it because you will refer to it often.
