The coding of the stamp paper manufacturers is a hoax! It may be easy to add a "P" in print on the counter sheet or stamp booklets but that does NOT guarantee the stamps were printed on that particular type of paper. Or does it?

Are the manufacturers recognizable???

Maybe some! But than we need kriteria!

Apart from luminescence only ONE type of paper is recognizable!

Coated Papers Ltd or Tullis Russell due to the extra [IMHO unnecessarily!] pattern added to both the front and the back of the paper. I.e. both to the wire side and the felt side. These additions have nothing to do quality improvements of the printing.

Trying to place all my "Peterborough" together according to the info given by Unitrade [2019 edition] I found a series of stamps that was NOT printed on Peterborough paper but on CPL paper for sure!

It has ALL characteristics of the CPL/TR papers!

On Robin Harris's web site [adminware.ca/stamps] today, he indicated that the next Unitrade would correct 1595-1599 to Coated Papers paper. If you brought this to his attention, he did listen to you.

https://adminware.ca/unitrade2019/errata.htm

I've copied only this one item from his web site.

I do not believe I have received any e-mail from you in the last week.

What e-mail address are you using?

The correction to this specific listing was done based upon reading this thread.

Rein, I believe you're being a bit too critical
about Canadian stamp production.
How many other countries indicate on the selvedge of their
panes or booklets or on the coil gutter strips as to who
manufactured the stamp paper?
Not many I bet.
Ok there might be the odd mistake but so what.
Just think if the coding wasn't there you wouldn't have
anything to fuss about.

Martin,

I was distinguishing types of paper and assigning them to manufacturers of Belgian stamp paper before the Belgian Post Office decided that it wasn't really a trade secret and came up with the importing firms! Not the manufacturers themselves. I could tell the Harrison&Sons from the Henry&Leigh Slaters or the Intermills without any code available!

I generally can tell the Tullis Russells from any other manufacturer and so I discovered the Peterborough mistake :)

OK, but do you know of any country that actually marks
the paper manufacturer on the selvage area like
Canada Post has done for approx 35 years?
