Good Morning Everyone,

I have a Great Britain Penny Red with what appears to be a either a reversed letter or an inverted letter in the bottom right. Hard to make it out behind the cancel. I could use an expert opinion please - someone with experience. Have a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Right, I see it now...Probably a J. Thank you "pennyblackie"

Maybe getting a Penny Red Plate would 100% confirm it? I need to get a better scanner... maybe I will take a photo instead... Right, probably my imagination.

I have so far not come across an error in the letters used apart from some varieties such as re-entries.

Off topic perhaps - but I would feel guilty if I did not share this. You can save locally as a PDF that is text searchable.

Doesn't look like a J to me. Looks like an inverted P.

It's called the "square footed J," one of the check letter varieties (another is the "P converted to R")
Possibly plate 36 (TJ with a J flaw is a listed variety in the Gibbons catalog for plate 36)
Small premium in value (very small - like 15% more)
C.
