I read the news in their latest auction catalog preface. They are moving to Mid Town Manhattan within the next few months. I am thrilled since I can attend their auctions in person more easily and consign with personal interaction. I believe that it is a positive sign of health for Harmer. They state that they will be a stones throw from their original address when they were known as Harmer's of New York.

Selfishly, that's too bad for me, as I attended their Orange County auctions. It was great to be able to examine large lots and collections and make an informed bid, and then not have to pay for shipping. ... There will still be a couple of major auctions in the LA/OC area each year as it stands now, but it was nice to have the Harmer auctions as well. I enjoyed and appreciated them. |

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see Keith Harmer's name inside their catalog. Is he still there? |

I grew up in NYC and visited SoCal many times. All things being equal, not sure why a solid business comfortable in SoCal would want to move back to Manhattan unless there are compelling family reasons or cultural opportunities simply not available in LA. |

Hey everyone! I just wanted to chime in and address a few of the points being made here:
Rodgcam--we're certainly very excited about this move and look forward to seeing you at our sales!
Eyeonwall--not sure what you've heard or what you're referring to. With the first of ten sales of "The Erivan Collection" coming up on June 22, we're extremely excited about what's in store for the future of HR Harmer. I'm confused how a move to Midtown Manhattan could be interpreted as anything but a positive sign.
Txstamp--Keith Harmer (and his siblings) have not been involved with HR Harmer in some time now. Greg Manning purchased the company from the family in 2004 (it has since changed hands several other times). Keith's current company, Harmers International, has no affiliation with our firm which is the original H.R. Harmer dating back to 1940 in the US.
Shermae--HR Harmer's move to California was necessitated by the actions of my predecessors, and the current owners and I feel that the firm should always have remained on the east coast. New York City is where we held some of the most important sales of the last century, so we feel that it is only fitting to return.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me either on the board or via email (cepting@hrharmer.com).
Regards, Charles Epting President/CEO, HR Harmer |

It sounds good to me, my wifr and I like to visit the Big Apple, now I'll have something to do while she shops. |

Between the Erivan and Gross auctions, this is a good time to be a collector (or someone who just wants to ogle some amazing stuff).
Anyone know where I can get a good price for miscellaneous body parts so that I can be a buyer at these sales (even if I have to limp my way there)? |

I definitely agree.
I will likely be an observer-only at the next Gross sale. My body parts aren't worth that much. |

Eyeonwall - Instead of making insinuations why not clearly state what you think is going on. |

As I occasionally go to New York but never to California, I'm glad to hear this. Perhaps I can time one of my visits to catch an auction. |
