Anyone else feel the same as I do- that something may be off about this cover? The stamp on the far left does not look tied to the cover. It's a pretty piece with a low price, and that gives me pause. Ideas?
Not my area of specialization, but I know Roman States have been the target of much fakery. The left stamp has cancellation ink all over the top and right perfs that somehow didn't make it onto the cover or the adjacent stamp. I would pause too.
The rate appears to be correct and the stamps, such as they are, appear genuine. It's an ugly cover with all stamps faulty, 2 in a major way. Someone has put numbers under each stamp in pen. Poor cancels that often don't tie stamps are rather common for Roman States covers, especially with these stamps on glazed paper. It's still a poor cover, perhaps useful for reference if you are a specialist.
The cover was sent from Rome.Blue French transit cancel on the 2 right stamps with the black PD.Arrival 5 Jan...The departure date looks like a 1 ? Mail took 3 days from Rome to Paris; so another 2 days for GB,so the time fits in.
