What did the seller claim about these stamps?

They look like China Stamp 2006-1 Year of Dog stamps, but are badly discolored. I assume you are trying to determine if these are printing errors or fraudulently damaged afterwards?

They look like they have been damaged afterwards.

You can do wonders with a piece of black paper and a little sunshine .Cut the paper to block out some sun and you can have all kinds of color variations .

Well the one on the left is used as it is cancelled. I can see a series of numbers across the middle of the stamp, so it clearly shows that it has been altered in some way by light or chemical. And the one on the right appears to be mint with selvedge attached.

Edit: as to original question. In my opinion they are real postage stamps. The left one is just not in original condition.

@ ggreve, Thank you for your response, the seller said both of the stamps are printing errors and they are highly valuable. But the stamps are tricky to identify. And I have no clue about the actual value.

@ No1philatelist, Thank you very much for your opinion. What do you mean by "The left one is just not in original condition" ?

Not as it was issued - the apparent "variety" is damage subsequent to the printing, rather than an error in printing.

As geofha mentioned, in my opinion I feel that the left one has some sort of damage. I am no expert but do feel strongly about that particular stamp.

But wait a minute, I just noted the right stamp. It is missing the Black China and characters even though the rest of the black color of the value and date are still there. That is not normal. Usually if the black is missing it is usually all over. What other reason for it be like that? Unknown. I cannot ascertain the legitamacy of these stamps and feel strongly that if I was buying them I would definately do it on extension and submit them for certification of authenticity, and that they were not altered. Too much doubt about them in my mind.
