I'm looking for a free-standing go-anywhere light-footprint photo-inspection system.

The Celestron 44360 Infiniview LCD Digital Cordless Microscope seems to fit the bill, to wit:

- operates on a 2-hour battery or grid power, and

- transfers imagery via SD card or USB line.

Dear Forum Brothers & Sisters: What am I not going to like about it?

Cheers,

Looks promising.
If you purchase, (Price?) we need a road test focusing on Philately.
I wonder if any way of ID Watermarks?
It is always difficult to warrant expense, when the flatbed scanner does most of the in depth work in most cases.

Are we talking about stamp/cover use or other things as well?

2 hour battery life isn't that exciting. You'll be carrying the power cord around of course but power's not alway handy. And is the battery replaceable/ can a spare be had?

One thing you won't know is how hard you have to press the buttons to take a unblurred photo. It looks sturdy enough but if you're out in the field/at a stamp show, the gizmo may not be able to sit on a stable surface.

Also, the LEDs may not be always enough by themselves for photos, especially for color. That seems to be a common thing with electronic microscopes.

Now my much smaller cheapie microscope camera runs off USB power and has no viewer, so requires a laptop but the total battery life will be closer to 4 hours or so. My gizmo has less stability than this but I can "click the shutter" from the laptop. You probably can too but that's not a standalone situation.
