I know there is some value in postal forgeries. Forged stamps that were used in the same time period made to defraud the post office, as opposed to forgeries that were created to defraud stamp collectors. The Scott catalog has a a lot of postal forgeries listed. I could not find a listing for this particular forgery. Any thoughts?
Seeing this post and your post about the Pomeroy stamp ... I would highly recommend you invest in the 3 volume set of Larry Lyons' "The Identifier for Carriers, Locals, Fakes, Forgeries and Bogus Posts of the United States" + the price guide supplement. The Scott catalog is completely inadequate for identifying these. To be honest, you are wasting your time trying to use Scott.
NanoPhilatelic, You have a Frajola forgery, type B2, designation 1WE5F2 so that's it's ID, but there is no value information for the forgeries. Generally I find most of this forgery type will garner between $10 and $25. This particular issue has no less than 22 different variations by different forgers. John Becker and StateRevs make a great suggestion, that getting the Lyons books are indispensable in properly IDing both genuine and forged items. But as I mention, it doesn't provide any guidance regarding values.
As I noted above, the Lyons' trilogy also has a price guide supplement: "The 2007 Pricing Guide for Unlisted Carriers, Locals, Fakes, Forgeries and Bogus Posts of the United States"
More generally, do not skimp on investing in the specialty literature or society memberships. Both will pay for themselves very quickly.
