Scott says this stamp is ultra. Is my example a known variant? a changling? damaged in some other way? a fake? I'm pretty sure it's one of the already inferior reprints of this issue, but the color problem remains.

The footnote under Scott 432, which applies to all of the privately printed issues of the time including this set, says:

Quote:
Many so-called "errors" of color and perforation are known.

The blurriness of your stamp indicates it's a reprint, and apparently one of the "errors of color" that the printers produced, too.

It's in the same category as the inverted vignettes on some of these issues, intentional errors made for collectors. Still, no collection of Spain would be complete without oddities like these.

Thanks, CodeHappy. I'd never noticed that note to 432. Certainly answers my question. Of the whole series, I have only two that might be original printing, also a third that's less convincing. What do you guys think?

P.S. It's the 25Cts that I have the most doubt about.
