Believe what you have is Scott 619 and 622. They are part of the "CNC Surcharge" grouping.
The basic stamps are from the (secret marks) Martyr Issue of 1940 - 41. The first surcharge (black rectangle) signifies the Nanking puppet government's currency. The second surcharge (green) signifies Chinese National Currncy (CNC), and is believed to have been applied in 1945 at Shanghai.
Both stamps should be sans watermark. And perforated either 12.5 or 13.
Hi, Calstamp, when I looked up the numbers in Scotts I saw that it was 616 - but you sure got me in the right direction! I did some browsing on Chinese number characters and printed out a list. That is a big help.
For years I just kept the Chinese stamps I couldn't find a home (in Big Blue) for in glassine envelopes. It was just too complicated for me. But suddenly a couple of weeks ago it has become almost an obsession........and with all the Steiner pages, I am slowly able to fit them in the proper squares.
I turned 75 early this week, and realize this is one hobby I can love and enjoy for hopefully years to come!
