New To The Hobby, Cataloging An Inherited Collection

Hi Everyone,
I am completely new to the hobby and I really don't consider myself a collector, rather a cataloger...if that is even a word. I inherited a collection and I am starting the process of cataloging its content. As I approach this overwhelming and intimidating task, I am learning so much and have decided to create a record of my journey through a blog. This project will probably take me several months, if not years, because I don't even know exactly how many albums of stamps there are. I cannot guarantee that it will get finished. I don't know if I have the persistance necessary for this task. I am sure that after the initial cataloging is finished, I will have to go back and adjust a lot of the information because the more I learn, the more accurately I can catalog everything.
Anyway, I have been reading a lot of posts here and many have been quite helpful, though many are over my head. I'm sure I'll have many questions as I explore the collection so I figured I'd say hi before I start my inquiries.

This may be a stretch, but consider a research grant from the U.S. Postal Museum:

You would probably have to partner with a local college or university. This would at least secure some motivated labor.

Thanks everyone! I've got more posts on the way. With a full time job and kids, I expect some irregularities in my blogs but I will try to stay consistent.

BFRomeos, that is my expectation regarding your comment about the journey vs. destination. I have a feeling if there were any unusual stamps, I would have already known about them. But with over 100,000 stamps to go, there is no telling what I will find.

And thanks for the info about the grant. I work at a university so that might be a possibility! I will definitely look into that!
